- FKEYpad 1.1
- FKEYboard 1.0
- --------------
-
- FKEYpad is an INIT resource that turns the digits (0 -> 9) on your
- numeric keypad into function keys (FKEY's).
-
- FKEYboard is a similar INIT resource that turns the digits on your
- keyboard (the top row) into function keys (FKEY's). Though these
- always worked as function keys before, with FKEYboard you do not need
- to press the additional (cmd-shift) keys with the digit.
-
- You are probably already familiar with FKEY's. They are invoked by
- typing cmd-shift-<number>. Apple implemented 4 of them in their system -
-
- cmd-shift-1 - eject internal disk
- cmd-shift-2 - eject external disk
- cmd-shift-3 - save screen to disk
- cmd-shift-4 - print screen
-
- Many other public domain FKEY's exist along with the Dreams of the
- Phoenix FKEY installer. I like function keys, but they are hard to
- invoke (it sometimes takes two hands). So I created FKEYpad and FKEYboard.
- They map the numeric keypad and the keyboard into the function keys.
- You can know just push the 1 key to eject the disk or the 4 key to print
- the screen and so on.
-
- INSTALLATION
-
- Both FKEYpad and FKEYboard are installed the same way. If you want the
- keypad to be the function keys install FKEYpad. If you want the keyboard to
- be the function keys install FKEYboard. For you FKEY freaks, you can install
- both and have your favorite FKEY always within reach.
-
- To install either on an HFS system (Finder 5.x), simply copy the file
- to the System Folder. That's it! The next time you boot up, it will
- be installed. The files are approximately 1200 bytes in size.
-
- To install either on an MFS system (Finder 4.1), you must use ResEdit.
- Simply copy the INIT 31 resource and paste it into the System file.
- The next time you boot up, it will be installed.
-
- BUGS, ETC.
-
- The previous bug in FKEYpad has been fixed. Although a friend of mine has
- gotten a bomb with it on a particular disk, I haven't been able to track it
- down.
-
- FKEYpad and FKEYboard have only been tested on a 512K Mac with the Mac +
- (128K HFS) ROMS and an external keypad. I would be interested in any
- problems with other system configurations.
-
